Live Painting Session with Cbabi

On 4/11, Cherokee Street Gallery will be asking "What's The 411?" with Cbabi Bayoc in a brand new virtual gallery, featuring a live streamed painting session with Cbabi. The event begins at 6pm and will be broadcast on Facebook LIVE and Instagram LIVE at the Cherokee Street Gallery accounts. You'll also be able to virtually walk through the entire show at CherokeeStreetGallery.com.

“We used to dial 411 for information and today we are immersed in virtual spaces entirely built from information. The joyful exuberance of Cbabi's artwork cuts through cyberspace and maintains the human touch we crave in this season social distancing,” says Cherokee Street Gallery Founder Benjamin Lowder. Cbabi’s show is the first exhibition at the gallery to open in cyberspace. You can virtually walk through Cherokee Street Gallery now at CherokeeStreetGallery.com and see the artwork currently in the gallery.

Cbabi (pronounced Kuh-bob-bi) Bayoc is an artist who has always known, and lived, his calling: creating art which reflects his love of music and family. This was in fact the reason he changed his name in 1997 from Clifford Miskell to Cbabi Bayoc. He wanted a name that when said always sent him a reminder of his purpose in life. Cbabi stands for Creative Black Artist Battling Ignorance and Bayoc (which he waited for his wife to discover) stands for Blessed African Youth of Creativity. Cbabi wanted to have a last name that included the attributes of the wife he was going to bear children with because the last name, he felt, should reflect both parents and not just the father.

Lowder explains, “We created this digital version of the gallery in response to the need for our visitors and collectors to stay home during the COVID-19 pandemic. We were compelled to build this VR version of the gallery to evolve with the challenges of these changing times, but it also represents growth into a digital space that will allow anyone on the planet to step into Cherokee Street Gallery. This is a perfect opportunity to support the talent of artist's like Cbabi as we navigate this new reality together.”
