The Ultimate Man Cave

Did you know that only 50 miles outside of St. Louis is Picture Cave, the largest collection of prehistoric images in all of Missouri?

“The Ultimate (Man) Cave Comes to Auction”, featured in the current issue of Sophisticated Living, paints a vivid picture of the significance of these caves and this region of Missouri to archeology internationally. Created in 1,500 B.C., the paintings inside Picture Cave have been maintained incredibly well considering their age and the conditions they endured. Maintenance by the Missouri Speleological Survey began in 1964 to protect these paintings for generations to come. For more on Picture Cave and its creation, discovery, and preservation, the University of Texas Press published Picture Cave: Unraveling the Mysteries of Mississippian Cosmos in 2015. This book gives readers a glimpse into life in Meso-America, around the time these cave images would have been painted. Native tribes such as the Osage would have used Picture Cave as shelter and protection, making the wall’s images depictions of the challenging everyday life people endured thousands of years ago.

The best part? This 43-acre property is for sale. Selkirk Auctioneers and Appraisers is offering Picture Cave and the land surrounding it to the highest bidder. For more details on how to make this piece of history yours, visit: https://www.selkirkauctions.com/
