Film Shot in St. Louis Available Today

The Ghost Who Walks,” a movie shot entirely in St. Louis, launches today on all video on demand platforms. The crime thriller, written and directed by Cody Stokes was filmed mostly in Downtown St. Louis, but also in Dogtown, Frontenac, the Central West End and Soulard.

Stokes says, “I grew up in St. Louis and I think it’s an underutilized city in terms of its visual aesthetic and its talent. I feel like we’re so overlooked in terms of the things we have here so I knew when I was going to make a film that I wanted to come back and utilize the city I love.”

Shooting in St. Louis also helped the independent film stay low budget, operating under the SAG Ultra Low Budget Agreement. Also behind the scenes– Producer Dan Gartner of St. Charles, Executive Producer David Johnson of St. Louis, and Executive Producer Barry Albrecht of St. Louis.

The story revolves around an imprisoned criminal who rats out his former boss for one last chance to reunite his family and become the father he never was. After five years in prison, guards lead Nolan (Garland Scott) to his freedom. His goal: find Lena and Amy-his ex and their five-year-old daughter he's never met-and get them out of the city, to a new life together, before the ghosts of his past can track him down and kill him.

The St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department gave Stokes access to the old city jail for the film. Other scenes were shot at Patrick’s Dogtown Liquors, Hufford’s Jewelry, Bastille in Soulard, Hawthorn Leadership School, and Brennan’s. Stokes used to work at Brennan’s, but transformed the usual trendy hotspot and co-working space into the scene of a big chase that crashed through the bar in the movie.

The film has already been screened in several film festivals including the St. Louis International Film Festival, The Bushwick Film Festival and The Anchorage International Film Festival. It’s now available on iTunes, Amazon Prime Video, VUDU, Google Play, YouTube Premium, Microsoft, Playstation, Fandango and Vimeo. It’s also available for purchase at Target or Amazon and through iTunes.
