Saint Louis Ballet streamed LOVE (and ballet) in the Time of Corona for Valentine’s weekend. The presentation featured solos and small ensembles set to Bach’s French Suite No. 5 and English Suite No 3. Under the direction of Executive and Artistic Director Gen Horiuchi, the entire company performed to a collection of music from the early 18th century. Lori Wilson, Amy Herchenroether, Elliott Geolat, Mark David Bloodgood and Lauren Christensen performed solos and pas de deux from favorite story ballets in the company’s classical repertoire including The Sleeping Beauty, Swan Lake and Coppelia.
Saint Louis Ballet is the region’s only professional ballet company. Under the direction of former New York City Ballet principal dancer Gen Horiuchi, its 25 classically trained dancers are selected in a competitive national audition and come to St. Louis from training programs and ballet companies throughout the world. The company’s repertoire includes full-length ballets as well as contemporary work from renowned choreographers such as George Balanchine, Christopher d’Amboise, Jessica Lang, Twyla Tharp, Tom Gold, Emery LeCrone, Amy Seiwert, Nilas Martins, and Michael Uthoff. In addition to a season of fully mounted productions, Saint Louis Ballet operates a ballet training program and conducts an outreach program, Pointe to Succeed, for students at select urban schools.
