Celebrate Gobble Gobble Day with Ease and Style
by Grayling Holmes
Gobble Gobble season is upon us. With less than a week until feast day, many are making plans for Thanksgiving, which takes place this year on Thursday, November 28th. Already, one sees turkeys on sale at the local supermarkets. Schnucks Markets here in St. Louis is selling turkeys for 58 cents a pound. They tout this as their lowest price in 14 years. But yes, that means:
Grocery shopping
Prep time for food
Guest lists
Table settings
House cleaning
Fall decorating
Massive cleanup
And countless other home entertaining chores
Whew! That’s a lot of work for one day. And the next day, Black Friday hits, and no matter your religious affiliation, it’s time to take advantage of all those sales. It’s shop till you drop time for many, either brick-and-mortar style or the let-your-keyboard-do-the-shopping way. Either way. It takes time, effort and energy to get it all done.
That’s why, according to a November 2023 Popmenu survey, about half of Americans plan to eat out on Thanksgiving, with 17% dining in and 32% ordering takeout or delivery. You heard that right. HALF!
In addition to avoiding the aforementioned chores, here are some reasons folks are choosing to work smarter, not harder to enjoy their holidays.
Convenience: Eating out is easier than cooking at home.
Stress reduction: Dining out can reduce stress and allow people to spend more time with family and friends.
Cost: Restaurants may offer discounts and meal packages that make eating out a better deal than cooking.
Professional cooking: Some people prefer the taste of professionally cooked food.
No cleanup: Guests don't have to clean up after dinner.
Neutral place: Restaurants can be a neutral place for families to gather.
Travel: Eating out can accommodate guests who travel.
Whether you choose the traditional at-home way to observe the autumnal celebration, order in, or go out, here are some ways to make Gobble Gobble Day smooth, breezy, and colorful as the leaves that fall and make the crescendo of your Fall 2024 season sing.
