"Growing Up Slatkin"

As many of us St. Louisans know, sometimes you have to leave St. Louis... only to come back! A unique and special place to call home, something in St. Louis appeals to all of us, including musical mastermind Leonard Slatkin.

Recently, Publisher Craig Kaminer had the opportunity to sit down over Zoom with Leonard Slatkin, Music Director Laureate of the Detroit Symphony Orchestra (DSO), Directeur Musical Honoraire of the Orchestre National de Lyon (ONL), and Conductor Laureate of the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra (SLSO). With a laundry list of accolades and accomplishments in the musical industry, the conversation covered a range of topics, from growing up in Los Angeles to traveling the world to (briefly) attending Indiana University:

“I know [St. Louis] is a city where you have to discover things on your own. When you drive around and go to the different neighborhoods you discover there are lots of great places to go, but they’re voyages of discovery -- small galleries, which are of great interest, little bookshops that are wonderful and neighborhood communities that make the city, the whole area, very special without getting into the politics or whatever else that's going on.”

Find out what else Slatkin had to say about St. Louis and why he chooses to call it home by reading the full article.
