St. Louis Native Debuts Children's Book at Novel Neighbor
By Courtney Scott
St. Louis native, Olivia Polk, recently debuted her children’s book Millie the Magical Stone Skipper. The MICDS graduate will be doing a book signing this weekend at Novel Neighbor.
“While the book is set in the Tetons, there are strong themes and references to my wonderful English literature classes at Community School, MICDS, and Williams College,” says Polk. "I'm so grateful for the enormous influence that my St. Louis high school teachers have had, especially Ms. Mittler, Mr. Tourais, and Ms. Good, at the beginning of my book publishing journey."
Millie the Magical Stone Skipper is a modern spin on a classic Grimm fairytale about girl power, independence, and paving your own way! The heroine Millie, at home in the Tetons, learns a special skill that empowers her to try new things and find her life’s purpose. Using perseverance and a love for outdoor adventure (and helpful physics lessons from a magical frog), she saves her older brothers. Illustrated by Vanya Liang, the wild western tale encourages young readers to try new things and do what makes them happiest.
