Sophisticated Giving Spotlight: STL Area Foodbank

Sophisticated Details: Founded in 1975, the St. Louis Area Foodbank is the region’s largest provider of food as well as household and personal care items to those people facing hunger. More than 392,000 people rely on the Foodbank for assistance each year, and through our network of more than 500 partners and programs across 26 counties in Missouri and Illinois, we are able to meet that need. As the only local food bank with United Way of Greater St. Louis and Feeding America memberships, we uphold the highest level of fiscal accountability—97% of our resources go toward food distribution efforts. For 47 years, the St. Louis Area Foodbank has been there for people dealing with crisis, be it a natural disaster, a global pandemic, or the everyday crisis of hunger.

Sophisticated Goals: The St. Louis Area Foodbank aims to provide 43 million nutritious meals throughout the 26 counties in Missouri and Illinois that we serve. Our goal is to not only provide healthy foods especially in areas with limited to no access, but also offer neighbors a choice-- and the dignity that can come from choosing your own food based on your preferences and needs. Together, with the help and support of the community, we were able to provide food and hope for more people than ever before during the COVID-19 pandemic. As more vaccines go into arms, we are grateful that our community is starting to recover, but the amount of need is still greater than pre-pandemic levels, and we expect that to be the case for some time, so we need the continued support of our region.
