Tibetan Spa Treatment Energizes the Senses

Many are saying, “there just isn’t enough time before the holidays.” Thanksgiving came a week later than normal on the calendar, leaving last-minute shoppers a week less to get everything done before Hanukkah, Christmas and the New Year. With that feelng of being depleted– and snow days to further get us behind– there’s no better time to book a service that will leave you feeling energized all through the remaining weeks of 2019!

Seasoned spa therapist and Reiki Master Chelsea Bakke of the Four Seasons Hotel in St. Louis has created a new treatment/experience called Ch’i, derived from Tibetan rituals that will replenish energy. The service begins with a steamy Tibetan foot soak of herbs and salts straight from the source, that slowly heat up the body from the toes all the way through the chakras and up into the scalp. A cup of adaptogenic (stress reducing) ginger and turmeric Tulsi tea helps the heat travel. Chelsea explains, “Ginger and turmeric contain anti-inflammatory and immune boosting properties to support the nervous system." After an intentional yogic breathing exercise of breaths of fire, the client moves to the massage table for a traditional Tibetan KunYe massage.

Before the massage portion of the treatment begins, Chelsea plays singing bowls with vibrations that awaken yet clear the senses, triggering the beginning of the restoration of energy. After that, music by Grammy nominee Joshua Stoddard begins, and the body goes into a natural state of relaxation. Stoddard created the sound bath at 432 hertz with the intention of providing a calming experience to leave guests feeling centred and recharged. 432 hertz is the harmonic intonation of nature, thought to synchronize the brain and induce a natural state of relaxation. Stoddard’s angelic soundscapes are created using voice, quartz crystal sound bowls, a guitar, synthesizer and shruti box.

The KunYe massage technique is done with a blended warming oil that is made up of ginger and even cayenne, which provides awakening sensations across the skin. Hot herbal compresses are applied to select pressure points and chakras. The Ch’i body treatment concludes with an invigorating scalp massage that relaxes the nervous system by stimulating nerve endings. Gentle pressure is applied from the lower neck to the crown of the head and along the jaw line in circular motions to relax the face and mind.

“This treatment is ideal for athletes or anyone feeling overextended or depleted – whether it is due to emotional stress, a physical ailment or lack of mental clarity, this customizable treatment restores energy and returns balance to the body,” says Chelsea.

Before or after the treatment, guests should enjoy full use of the spa. In addition to the multiple treatment rooms, the 12,000-square foot spa and salon features whirlpools, steam rooms and a relaxation lounge, providing guests with serene and rejuvenating oasis unlike any other in the region.

A full diniing menu and light snacks and refreshments are available in the lounge area of the spa.

The Four Seasons Hotel is located in Downtown St. Louis at 999 North 2nd Street. The 80-minute Ch’i treatment starts at $245 and may be booked by calling 314.881.5758 or online.
