Celebrate African American Music Appreciation Month with Music At The Intersection
June is African American Music Appreciation Month! This month celebrates the African American musical influences that comprise an essential part of our nation’s treasured cultural heritage.
Music At The Intersection festival tells the story of St. Louis’ musical, cultural and artistic heritage. It celebrates the city’s imprint on the American songbook, the relationship St. Louis has with its Mississippi River sister cities, and the musical genres that have been birthed and fostered locally. In paying homage to the musical legends whose artistic expressions help build community, generate empathy, and foster a sense of shared identity - the Foundation is celebrating Buddy Guy. Buddy is the blues, he is one of the greatest guitarists of all time, he's our connection to a genre that's embedded in the history of America, and he's performing at Music At The Intersection.
George "Buddy" Guy is an American blues guitarist and singer and an exponent of Chicago blues. He has influenced generations of guitarists including Eric Clapton, Jimi Hendrix, Jimmy Page, Keith Richards, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Gary Clark Jr. and Jeff Beck. Buddy won eight Grammy Awards and Lifetime Achievement Award, National Medal of Arts, and Kennedy Center Honors.
